    • Materia Slots
Gear that can be enhanced through this system will contain materia slots, each of which can be affixed with materia without failure.

    • Advanced Melding
Attempting to use more materia than the slots available on a piece of gear is referred to as advanced materia melding. The chance of success will decrease as you attempt to affix more materia. Should you fail at advanced materia melding, only the catalyst and materia used in the melding process will be lost. Players will keep their gear and any materia already attached to it.

    • Enhancement Cap
When enhancing gear with materia, there are certain limits to how high parameters can be raised depending on the gear. These parameter limits are based on the class or job that uses the gear (e.g., gear for blocking) and the item level. Higher level gear will have higher enhancement caps. There are instances where gear with the same equipping requirement have different item levels. For example, both the vanya robe and sentinel’s cuirass can be equipped at level 50. However, due to the overall quality of each piece of gear and the difficulty in obtaining them, their item levels are different.
*Maximum enhancement values can be verified in the materia melding window.

    • All items for sale in the markets can be purchased through the market boards. However, when purchasing an item for sale in one city by using a market board in another, you must pay an additional 5% surcharge.
